Review of 23 October 2026: we checked the rows for the United States, Canada, the United Kingdom, the Schengen area, Japan, China, Colombia, Peru, Chile, Argentina, Brazil, Uruguay, Panama, the Dominican Republic and Cuba against official sources (listed in the Spanish version). The rest of the matrix is a general reference not recently verified: confirm the requirement on the destination country’s official site before buying.

Countries where Mexicans are BADLY received (visa-free but often rejected)

Some countries officially allow visa-free entry but practice selective rejection of Mexicans:

  • Croatia, Slovenia: occasional rejections for “suspicious economic profile”
  • Ireland: high rejection rates last 2 years for Mexicans without clear hotel reservation + return ticket
  • Australia: check which visa or authorisation applies before travelling

Tip: ALWAYS carry return ticket + hotel reservation + proof of funds.

FAQs

My Mexican passport expires in 5 months — can I travel to Schengen?

NO. Schengen requires 6+ months validity at moment of exit. Renew at INM (regional offices) or Mexican consulate before.

How much validity do I need for USA?

USA accepts valid passport — the 6-month rule is Schengen, NOT US CBP. But if your passport expires within your stay, CBP can limit your stay.

Can I travel with Mexican INM passport (not SRE)?

NO. Only the Mexican SRE passport (with your name + photo + biometric chip) is valid for international travel. INM/CURP are NOT passports.

Is express Mexican passport more expensive?

Regular SRE passport: $MXN 2,200-3,200 (May 2026, depends on 3-10 year validity). Express passport: $MXN 4,500-5,500. Both valid for all destinations.

If I was deported from USA 5 years ago, can I travel to Canada?

Depends on your case. On a Mexican passport, Canada requires a visitor visa unless you qualify for an eTA (air travel + valid US nonimmigrant visa or a Canadian visa in the last 10 years). Your immigration history counts in either application: if you have a deportation, consult an immigration lawyer before travelling.

Can Mexican immigration deny me exit?

Yes in rare cases:

  • If you have arrest warrant (criminally wanted)
  • If your passport reported stolen/lost
  • If you’re minor without parental permission
  • If your USA B1/B2 visa was cancelled (depends on destination)

Does my USA B1/B2 visa work for entering Schengen?

NO. USA and Schengen are separate systems. Your USA visa doesn’t give you access to Schengen. For Schengen: Mexican passport (visa-free 90/180).

Is biometric Mexican passport worth more than normal?

NO. All Mexican passports issued since 2010 are biometric. The distinction is validity (3, 5, 10 years) and cost.

How to verify visa status for my destination?

  1. SRE consultaweb: gob.mx/sre/consultainmigracion (official list)
  2. VisaHQ Mexico (private but useful): visahq.com.mx
  3. Henley Passport Index: henleyglobal.com/passport-index
  4. Embassy of destination in Mexico: contact direct

If I have dual Spanish nationality, which passport do I use?

  • Exit Mexico: Mexican passport
  • Enter Schengen/EU: Spanish passport (you’re EU citizen)
  • Third country: either (Spanish passport has 189 visa-free vs. Mexican 158 — prefer Spanish for max access)
  • Exit EU/Spain: Spanish passport
  • Enter Mexico return: Mexican passport
